Really looking forward to this one now.

The league pressure is off and the players will be buzzing after beating Man Utd.

The big one. Huge monkey off our back with that win yesterday so we can just focus on this competition now. I really hope we didn’t Leave it one match too late in the league to have everyone in top shape/form for this.

We should win but they are no mugs and this will not be a walk over. No time to be all cautious with the home leg first either.

El - Your post on the match thread just before KO yesterday was fucking tragic mate, it was literally like you were crying.

No two games are the same, especially when one is against European opposition, so I won't just assume we will take yesterdays performance into this game, but if we do we could blow the cloggers away. Reckon it will be a massive atmosphere over there.

We have a decent result on Thursday then we can now rest everyone and make sure they're fresh for the second leg and should we reach the final we can now let them have a nice long rest

Won't be easy at all. Since getting through against Anderlecht AZ have played just 2 matches, the last was Saturday evening, drawing 0-0 with Ajax in Amsterdam. In the same period, we have played 5 high pressure matches.

I hope jarrod's not too sore today, that was one gutless filthy challenge by the manc cunt

Willtell 10:45 Mon May 8
Re: ⚽ West Ham v AZ Alkmaar - Official Match Thread - Preview
Yes that was a filthy scrape down the back of Jarrod's leg. In my mind that was deliberate from Malacia to slow Jarrod down. That used to be a red card offence but these days players get away with yellows and red is reserved for specific offences relating to stopping a goal scoring attempt when there's no back up.

It's the same sort of thing as the penalty turn down for handball. The ref only looked at whether the hand was near the body. Yes so no penalty but Lindelof moved his hand to the ball even though it was near his body.

And of course, he was Man Utd so can't be a pen....

I hope we’ve learned from last year.
Don’t chase the game too early, we don’t have to win the first leg but we can’t lose it.

Personally I think we need to forget it is two games.

Go out to win this match. Any win puts us one step away.

Chance to kill the tie on the night like Man City did against Bayern.

Away leg won’t be easy in a small tight ground so let’s get the game done.

I think 2-0 home game , 1-1 away.

One Iron - You called 1-0 yesterday, hopefully you had a few shillings on it.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v AZ Alkmaar - Official Match Thread - Preview
Moyes doesn't operate well under pressure so we need an early goal to settle the prick down. We need Cresswell to be nowhere near this game. Got a funny feeling these Dutch cunts are going to be really decent, think a lot are underestimating them.

We are freed from the turgid league schedule now, hopefully this means we'll get a performance out of them.

This will be a tough game and similar to last seasons semi final against Frankfurt.

They are a decent team who can still finish 3rd in the Dutch league above Ajax so any talk that we should be putting this tie to bed in the first leg is more hopeful than realistic.

A narrow 1 goal lead going into the second leg wouldn’t be a bad result.

Manuel 11:55 Mon May 8
Re: ⚽ West Ham v AZ Alkmaar - Official Match Thread - Preview
Agree, taking a one goal lead out there wouldn't be too bad at all, we can easily score goals out there with our counter game.

We need two clear goals

Crassus 12:10 Mon May 8
Re: ⚽ West Ham v AZ Alkmaar - Official Match Thread - Preview
Agree with Stewey, two goals, minimum - and we will get them

Ajax are no benchmark, they are awful this season and AZ have lost a winger injured, we will win

Any half decent Premier League team should be wiping the floor with this mob. I don't reckon their entire squad's wages make up Danny Ings'

swindon hammer 12:24 Mon May 8
Re: ⚽ West Ham v AZ Alkmaar - Official Match Thread - Preview
So we should be “wiping the floor” with the same mob that beat Lazio (Top 3 in Serie A) home and Away?

The ignorance of some on here.

I said any half decent Premier League team.

Do you think we've been half decent?
